A Taste of Captiva Island

Three one-of-a-kind experiences for foodies.

A Taste of Captiva Island

Imagine cruising through the sparkling Pine Island Sound, docking up and then settling in at an outside table for a cold beer and a plate of fresh-shucked oysters. That’s what many a local and visitor do at The Green Flash on Captiva Island, though you can also come by car. The Green Flash is one Captiva’s most beloved establishments, serving up the quintessential Floridian experience of incredible waterside views, a lively bar, and of course, Gulf-fresh seafood.

The Green Flash Restaurant is a staple on Captive Island

Their seafood dishes are hard to beat, from the grilled Florida lobster tail to the Captiva Steam Pot (clams, mussels, calamari, shrimp, scallops and fish steamed in a saffron and fennel garlic broth). But you’ll also find many European specialties on their menu like Veal Zurich (veal sautéed in butter, shallots, mushrooms, white wine, cream and lemon, served with their homemade spatzle) and dishes that deliver a blend of both, such as Grouper “Cafe de Paris” (the fresh local fish baked in white wine, lemon and Worcestershire and topped with buttery herbs). Whether you sit outside, inside or at the bar, you’ll enjoy a casual and friendly atmosphere and scenic views of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Taste Sensations That Are Anything But Old School

Another Captiva Island restaurant specializing in fresh Gulf seafood is Old Captiva House at Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa. This local gem is on the site of Captiva Island’s first schoolhouse in the early 1900s and a landmark on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Seafood delights are on the menu at Old Captiva House

The celebrated eatery has been reimagined with elegant decor and modern cuisine while maintaining its historic charm. Just a few of the delights in store: Blackened Snapper with a watermelon cucumber salad, Lobster and Crab Crusted Scallops, and Pomegranate Glazed Lamb Chops… all served with a breathtaking sunset view on the side.

Save Room for a Very Special Dessert

As one of Captiva Island’s most eclectic offerings, Boops by the Bubble Room really takes - and serves - the cake. The most popular cake at this dessert and ice cream shop is the Orange Crunch, with its distinct almond brown sugar crunch and dreamy orange cream cheese icing. Other moist and delicious cakes that bring island flavors into the mix are the Tropical Breeze and Key Lime, or go for the more traditional Chocolate or Red Velvet.

Cakes at Boops at the Bubble Room are amazing

Boops is an extension of Captiva Island’s legendary Bubble Room, which has been closed since Hurricane Ian, but word on the street is that it’s finally reopening at the end of April (2025). It’s been an island favorite since 1979, when it began as the front room of the Farqhuarson family home. Over the years it grew to three floors of Hollywood and Christmas collectibles and memorabilia, from old toys and moving trains to its very own love tunnel. It’s an experience you don’t want to miss and along with their signature cakes, you can try other specialties like Socra cheese and Bubble Bread.
