Neighborhood Spotlight: Fort Myers

From the vibrant historic River District to relaxing green spaces and family-friendly attractions, Fort Myers has everything you need for a truly fulfilling vacation.

Start your exploration with a journey back in time at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, the historic neighboring homes of U.S. inventors Thomas Edison and Henry Ford — two visionaries of their time. Stroll north from there to the downtown Historic River District and discover shops, galleries and restaurants housed within charming turn-of-the-century architecture.

Explore the gallery at Alliance for the Arts, which showcases regional works in all mediums and hosts hands-on art workshops. Catch a performance from the Gulf Coast Symphony at three different performing arts centers, and soak up top-tier productions at Florida Repertory Theatre and The Laboratory Theater of Florida.

Fort Myers is also home to some incredible sporting events. Come springtime, the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox call our area home for spring training. For some minor league action, catch a Fort Myers Mighty Mussels’ home game at the Lee Health Sports Complex. As the Single-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, you’re sure to catch legends in the making (and even a foul ball!).

Natural beauty and vast green spaces are abundant in Fort Myers. Immerse yourself in lush landscapes while learning about the local flora and fauna at parks and preserves, like Six Mile Cypress Slough PreserveManatee Park and Lakes Park.

For active adventures, head to the Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium with the kids (or the young at heart) to learn about Southwest Florida’s nature. Take time to tee off on two 18-hole Tiger Woods–designed putting courses at PopStroke. If shopping is on your to-do list, then the Bell Tower shops and Gulf Coast Town Center should be on your must-visit list. At the end of a fun-filled day, grab a beer from a local craft brewery or enjoy dinner with sunset views.

No matter if you’re traveling solo or with a loved one — or even a whole group! — Fort Myers has something for everyone.
