Fort Myers Webcams Network

In September 2022, Fort Myers and its surrounding areas were devastated by Category 5 Hurricane Ian. We recognized that while many travelers desired to visit or return to the greater Fort Myers area, their readiness to do so varied during hurricane recovery efforts.

That’s why we launched a network of nine webcams in 2023 that allowed visitors to our website to virtually drop in and see for themselves the parts of our destination that were open and ready to welcome them. The webcams were an integral part of our “My Fort Myers” recovery campaign allowing visitors to reconnect with the destination, feel as if they were “in the know” in terms of where we were in recovery and reignite visitors' passion for the destination. While our recovery campaign messaging was telling travelers that we’re ready to welcome them, the webcams validated this claim in that “seeing is believing,” helping the destination feel more tangible in a digital world.

Website Integration

In addition to the webcam landing page, a webcam icon was added to the website header. Site fly-ins and modals were implemented and callouts inviting users to tune in for live-stream events via the webcams were also placed throughout the site.

Social Media Promotion

A paid social campaign including video, image, story and carousel ads targeted website lookalike and interest based audiences. The webcams were also promoted organically on Fort Myers’ social channels.

Email Campaign

A triggered email sent based on on-site activity for subscribers that had recently visited our "What's Open" page” made them prime candidates to try our live webcams.

Results Snapshot

Results for the webcam initiative far exceeded our initial goal, achieving 244,180 pageviews in 7.5 months. The landing page became the third-most visited page on VisitFortMyers.com and ranked first for “Fort Myers webcam” on Google, Yahoo and Bing. From May – December 2023, it received approximately 1,070 pageviews per day. Of the 604,209 total webcam views, 286,968 were unique, indicating repeat viewership. In all, the total time spent watching our webcams exceeded 531 days during our measurement period of 5/18/23 - 12/31/23.
