Memorial Day Is Almost Here
Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while in the U.S. military service. Whether your Memorial Day plans involve gathering with family and friends, lazing about in the sunshine, or packing in a whole lot of adventure, the greater Fort Myers area has everything you need.
Pack a picnic and spend time on secluded shores like Boca Grande’s Gasparilla Island State Park. Venture to Sanibel Island where Blind Pass Beach Park and Bowman’s Beach are blanketed in seashells. Other popular spots like Lynn Hall Memorial Park on Fort Myers Beach and Bonita Beach Park in Bonita Springs are also open.
It wouldn’t be a getaway without a top-notch meal. Enjoy a breakfast at Blue Giraffe on Sanibel Island. They currently are operating out of their food truck in the Periwinkle Place Shopping Center and have ample outdoor seating. Grab a delicious breakfast sandwich or burrito and then rent a bike to explore the island’s extensive network of trails. Enjoy a waterfront lunch or dinner at the recently reopened Gramma Dots, located at the Sanibel Marina.
Or you can wake up early to grab an iced coffee at Shift Coffee Bar Tuesday - Thursday. This Fort Myers favorite is close to other downtown attractions like the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, Burroughs Home and Gardens, and the IMAG History & Science Center.
Get out on the water and explore the secluded islands by boat. As the weather warms up, you can spot manatees in coastal habitats around the Gulf of Mexico. Kayaking outfitters are taking people to launch sites on the Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail to explore the waters flowing through Pine Island, Matlacha and beyond.
Come evening time, your choices around the Fort Myers area are nearly endless. Take in a live performance, enjoy a relaxed dinner as you overlook the water or soak up the energy into the night.
